Do you ever have a moment in which the world around and you feel perfect? As though time had slowed down and you can see the dust particles hovering in the rays of light filtering through the trees...and for a few breaths there is stillness and silence. Life seems perfect...content...satisfied and happy. Then the mind wakes up and says if only I had x,y,z it would be better. So now in the search of x or y or z we spend the next few days, years, lives satisfying it. This list, this list of conditional happiness never ends. You could be healthy, you could have a job, you could make enough to support a decent lifestyle, you could have friends and family who are healthy and alive, you could have access to good food/water/shelter...you could have many things that often many people struggle for....yet there is this list. This list of conditions which never ends. After the basic material needs are met, we often chase for untangible needs....needs that wish others to be different or the world to be different. If only there was no war...if only there was no hunger....if only my dearest ones understood me or connected with me....if only my partner was warmer...if only I looked younger or thinner ....if only.....if only......if only.....then I will be happy/satisfied/content. Before we know it by the time we go through this list...time is up. Why cant we be happy with what we have and accept that there is room for improvement. Why do we make it so hard to be happy. There is a sense of liberation and lightness in it. In being content and satisfied and accepting things the way they are. It unburdens you of the list of conditions and you can be happy now. Life always doesn't deal the perfect set of cards to you and you dont know how the game will change. But that should not stop us from being happy and grateful for what we have. It is an unfortunate human condition...a life of conditional happiness.
