When life was created there were two models that were
experimented with. One which adapted to its surroundings in different ways and
that seemed to work. Different models were made based on this concept, some
lived on land, some in water and some in the sky, some were more mobile while
others more stationary. They all were interconnected and interdependent. They
all had a predefined role to play in the circle of the planet. All was well.
None fought for a better role or a higher or lower position. Infact there were
no positions. They just were. Then an idea came, what if we introduced one more
life form, slightly different. One who can modify and use the environment
around, capable of thought and emotions and creativity. Little did they know
that a side effect of this would be the emergence of the self, the ego.
Initially all the life forms worked well. There was a lot of
diversity and no specie dominated. Soon the ego controlled specie learned to
manipulate other species, and they began to multiply with no control. They
began to believe that the other life forms on the planet were there for them to
exploit and control. Ego had established itself the minute they distinguished
themselves as different from the others that inhabited the planet. They began
calling them “beasts” or the wilderness. They forgot the ways of living with it
the more they removed themselves from it. Soon they seeked shelter from the planet
they were born in, they seeked for their own purpose as they had removed
themselves from the circle of life. They believed just existence was not
enough, they needed a higher purpose. The miracles in nature were explained
using a higher power and they named it God. Now there were enough of them that
the concept of God emerged in different forms and definitions between those who
were disconnected. Religion seemed to answer and give purpose to those who
seeked it. They felt good, the ego felt good. They were the chosen ones, the
civilized special people, who were self chosen. Over time ego grew in different
forms, religion, power, land ownership, ownership of other life forms. They
also invented this green thing that some had more of and some less, and that
determined whether they got food or not. They called it money. It became
another way to distinguish themselves. The more the number grew the more the
competition grew, the more the collective ego of the species flourished. The
ego that wanted to be different from the others one way or another. The species
soon had not only separated from the other forms of life it shared the planet
with but it even had classified itself into groups, that made each group
special in some way. The other life forms continued like they did for years
without an ego.
The experiment was to determine which species or model would
be successful. One might ask what success means, well overall success means
survival. Surviving the environment as well as other life forms. Clearly the model
that spawned the ego, has started seeking self importance, and has started
limiting the very rights of life and it is well known that any form that begins
to restrict, confine, define and distinguish will not last. It will not survive
itself while vastly consuming the resources around. The model will fail, lest
ego is checked and respect for life and other beings is realized soon. Not just
in text or prayer or religion but in action and way of being.
The initial selfless model
will continue to thrive….
